I know MER was working with... <name escapes me> at Ubuntu, the X maintainer,
on trying to fix some Geode problems, and I think Gadi was sponsoring some
Geode development as well.

But I suspect that's the root of the problem.  With 256 megs of ram you
certainly *should* have enough to not have exhaustion problems.
