Hi there, We run an Ubuntu 8.10 (kubuntu) - LTSP 5 lab with 26 clients. The Server is a Geniune server (Intel S5000VSA) with 8GB RAM (we never exceed 4GB). It is a Quad core machine with 10/100/1000 onboard LAN outlet. The Clients are most P4 2600 machines with 512M RAM.
We recently purchased 2 quiet dual-core G41 machines - very new and very fast - with 1GB RAM each. We have installed r8136 LAN cards with BOOT ROMS on them. The problem is that it takes a FULL 10 minutes for the machines to bring up a login Screen. This is ridiculous and uncacceptable - Can anyone help me here? The /var/log/daemon.log appears below: 192.168.0.155 is fixed for the moment I reset the machine to time its bringing up of a login screen - see below -- Starting at 12:00:00 with a reboot and ending at 12:10:07 with the appearance of the login screen: Sep 1 12:00:00 karibu dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:00:00 karibu dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.0.155 to 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:00:00 karibu dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.0.155 (192.168.0.254) from 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:00:00 karibu dhcpd: DHCPACK on 192.168.0.155 to 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:00:00 karibu in.tftpd[28636]: RRQ from 192.168.0.155 filename /ltsp/i386/nbi.img Sep 1 12:07:39 karibu nbd_server[27488]: Read failed: Connection timed out Sep 1 12:07:39 karibu nbd_server[27485]: Read failed: Connection timed out Sep 1 12:07:39 karibu nbd_server[27485]: Read failed: Connection timed out Sep 1 12:10:01 karibu dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:10:01 karibu dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.0.155 to 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:10:01 karibu dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.0.155 (192.168.0.254) from 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:10:01 karibu dhcpd: DHCPACK on 192.168.0.155 to 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:10:02 karibu dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.0.155 (192.168.0.254) from 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:10:02 karibu dhcpd: DHCPACK on 192.168.0.155 to 00:08:a1:48:0a:14 via eth0 Sep 1 12:10:02 karibu nbdrootd[28676]: connect from 192.168.0.155 (192.168.0.155) Sep 1 12:10:02 karibu nbd_server[28677]: connect from 192.168.0.155, assigned file is /opt/ltsp/images/i386.img Sep 1 12:10:02 karibu nbd_server[28677]: Size of exported file/device is 160169984 Sep 1 12:10:02 karibu in.tftpd[28678]: RRQ from 192.168.0.155 filename /ltsp/i386/lts.conf Sep 1 12:10:05 karibu nbd_server[28677]: Disconnect request received.
