Have you tried using the SeaMonkey browser? It's basically the old
Mozilla suite, uses the Gecko rendering engine and can be installed as
browser only (without the Composer, Email and other parts).

FireFox is extremely slow on our thin clients. I don't mean its
network speed, I mean the speed at which the entire window (menu bar,
etc.) renders itself on the screen. SeaMonkey has none of these
problems.
