the problem is usually that the stick does not appear on the desktop, 
but it is actually present in /media/username/...

the problem appears to be the gnome version (or gv-fs or what ever it is 
called) that does not place it on the desktop. But as long as the fuse 
stuff is there, the sticks actually work.
