In Gnome you have to remove/purge Compiz totally. I really do not how to
do that in KDE, of course there is something else than Compiz, but you
really have remove/purge KDE's similar packages to get thin client to
work.

And add these values in lts.conf, too.

LDM_DIRECTX=Y
X_COLOR_DEPTH=16

After these my low end thin client HP t5125 (September 2006) did boot to
the Gnome, but not in KDE. I do not know what to remove/purge in KDE.
