That's interesting, I'm also struggling with this problem for days. The error
messages in .xsession-errors are the same.
I have a separate dhcp-server that points to an lts-server via next-server
statement. This lts-server only provides the kernel, image and swapspace (tftp
and nbd).
Finally I use a get_hosts-script to point to several terminal servers, which
are defined in lts.conf. The lts-server and terminal servers are freshly
installed Ubuntu 10.04 with KDE.

This setup works so far (we use it since years on Ubuntu Hardy).
With the new installation, I can login at the client, the user connects to the
terminal server and the KDE splash screen starts. Mostly after displaying the
harddisk-image (sometimes earlier, sometimes later) the display gets black and
returns to the ldm login screen.

I already removed compiz packages and tried it with empty ~/.kde directory.
LDM_DIRECTX is set to True and X_COLOR_DEPTH is 16.

Searching for 'Fatal IO error: client killed' brought some older discussions
but nothing what really helps.

I even don't know, where to look further. So any help is highly appreciated.

Regards
Helmut
