With all the hype and options one loses track of the ball:

A ltsp thin client is a keybord-mouse-display on the server.
Say this over and over slowly.
What you can do on the console keyboard is what you can do at the thin client 
keyboard.

Many clever people have put a lot of effort into giving extra things, but they 
are just that EXTRA THINGS not substitute things. EG you said nothing 
mentioned the need for a window manager/desktop. If you dont have one then the 
console will not work (ie the failsafe X term) and behold the client does 
exactly the same.

PS fat client probably qualify as substitute things, but trying to roll out an 
install (thin or fat) while learning about it is going to hurt.
