I've always been interested in providing some kind of configuration for
LDAP in the server, but I've also looked at is as a barrier to people
getting LTSP up and running.

There's so many choices to make with LDAP and it's not exactly easy to
configure and troubleshoot.

Many people already have LDAP within their organization and interfacing
with that would require knowing the schema that they are using.

So, I don't think it would work to make it required or even enabled by
default.

But, I'll admit that it's been years since I looked at it, so maybe it's
gotten better.
