I've been trying to get LTSP going for several days, using both Ubuntu LTS
12.04 and now Edubuntu LTS 12.04.
The OS installs fine, no problems in either case, but the LTSP installation
is ... problematic, to say the least.
There is no problem for the clients to get an IP address from the DHCP
server, and they all log in via TFTP.
However, in every case, seemingly no matter which config file I modify or
how my stuff is connected, I can only boot the thin clients into the
BusyBox initramfs ... never into a graphical interface, and I always
receive the same messages, viewed by pressing CTL+ALT+F7 once I'm in
initramfs regardless of the machine.
Here are the messages I receive in their entirety (CTL+ALT+F7). Same
message whether I do a fresh install and try to connect without messing
with anything or after any of my multiple attempts to resolve the problem:

I do realize that this indicates a failure to accomplish things AFTER a
failure to connect (so things didn't get found because there was no
connection) ...
HOWEVER ... did not the client connect and get an address from DHCP and
then, further, successfully log in through TFTP?
It did ... so why the failure following the TFTP exchange? What's it
looking for?
I have tried everything I could find online, in any documentation and
through searching, including:
- Install NFS/NBD server
- Modify /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf with every conceivable variant (but not a
problem to get an IP via DHCP)
- Modify /tftp/ltsp/lts.conf with many variants
- Rebuild client, update sshkeys/image
and many more over the past several days. I have also re-installed both of
the OSs at least 5 times, first letting them setup LTSP for me and then
with me setting it up manually after the main OS was installed.
I had high hopes for Edubuntu, realizing that it is a distro intended for
non-admins, but I am in the same spot.
I have found no messages online showing the same errors as I am receiving
... most talk about a kernel panic or network card drivers ... so I am
posting here.
I super-appreciate any help at all resolving this problem. Note that the
links to the Edubuntu troubleshooting docs are non-functional.
Thanks in advance for anything at all.
