Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well today.

I am trying to determine which of two servers is more suitable for
LTSP deployment. A lot of the benchmarks I've come across were rather
complex to run. One that was recommended to me was this neat little
program called Geekbench.
http://www.primatelabs.com/geekbench/
It runs on Windows, Linux (bash script) and Mac and generates a
single-number score for your machine -- one score for single-core, one
score for multi-core. The 32 bit test is free, but the 64 bit test is
paid.

The neat thing about it is that it uploads to a website your general
specs and then your score so you can compare. The list is searchable
so if you're wondering how a specific type of hardware or
configuration performs you can search it. I ran it on two machines and
got the following scores:
Server 1 (windows 7 clean install):
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/382475
Server 2 (Edubuntu normal): http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/382460
Server 2 (Booted Single user mode):
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/382488

I thought the numbers would be much further apart but they were
surprisingly close for single core, and for multicore the i7 was much
higher than the dual Xeon

I was wondering if others would be interested in running this script
and posting their results so we can compare different performances and
load capabilities, the number of clients the server is carrying etc.
as that question comes up often. Additionally any other insight from
those more knowledgeable than me would be welcome!

Thanks
Joseph
