We have been using thin clients with Ubuntu (first karmic, then lucid) for several years. Recently we had a need to move to fat clients. We installed trusty server and added ltsp-server (we have a separate DHCP server), and installed ubuntu-desktop in the client image and added gnome-session-flashback. Our client hardware has Atom D510 processors (dual core 1.66 GHz) and 2 GB RAM, which we have doubled for use as fat clients. The only issue is that on occasion the printer selection dialog box will only load the window decorations and hang for up to 2 minutes before filling in the list of printers. We have a CUPS server running on a separate 10.04 server, and have CUPS_SERVER pointed to that IP address in lts.conf. At first the delay happened every time we printed, but we added appropriate LDM_PRINTER_LIST and LDM_PRINTER_DEFAULT entries to lts.conf for each fat client and it seemed to help most of the time. We also tried changing BrowseRemoteProtocols to none in cups-browsed.conf in the client image. The delay can be seen in Firefox, LibreOffice and Evince, at seemingly random times. Any ideas what can be causing this? -- Michael Crider, IT Supervisor Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative West Plains MO http://www.hoecoop.org
