Does adding the license to every single file in the distribution add to clarity, or does the current notice suffice? I see some people (mostly *BSD with their huge amount of contributors) do that, and wonder if this note is sufficient: https://bitbucket.org/wilhelmy/lua-bencode/src/tip/COPYING I also heard it's advised by some lawyers to mention every single year of copyright, rather than using a sequence of years separated by a minus sign, so I did that, although annoying. By the way, I decided to use the same terms as lua, as suggested by Hisham. Someone who doesn't agree to these terms wouldn't be using the module in the first place. Sorry about making such a fuss about this, and thanks for the feedback to everyone participating in the discussion.
