The microtypography extensions were part of Hàn Thế Thành's PhD thesis,
which was published in October 2000. InDesign's features can eventually be
traced back to the hz-program, which is as early as 1988. In fact, Hàn Thế
Thành mentions both the hz-program and InDesign in his thesis (
