This socket already exists indicating esd is already running.

and I don't know what launcher looks like or where it's located at.

Ralph, not sure I know enough to help, but here goes: if you are running
Gnome, you have to have the sound demon running, which is called esd.
Look for it and turn it on. Sometimes all you need is "esd" at a command
prompt; other times you have to load the launcher into you panel or
somewhere so you can easily turn it on. Good luck

My sound card wasn't working properly earlier but after I went into root
and did a "sndconfig" to connect it.. I now can hear my CD's but not
the
regular computer sounds? I think something's not connecting properly
but
I have no idea what it is... I'm using Mandrake 8.1

Another note: I eventually gave up on the Alsa sound drivers in Mdk
8.1, tired of having to constantly rerun sndconfig, etc..Finally bought
the OSS drivers; best $20 I ever spent.
