Hi, this starting to be a bit weird.. When installing lubuntu onto a newly prepared partition, with respect to Users and Groups I have found, on both occasions of an install to HD the following ... I'm using the a3 I downloaded 26th Feb from the wiki page link. I am using a USB pendrive to boot from, created with 9.10 (10.04 'Ubuntu' was not playing, I guess they broke that bit).
Preferences --> Users and Groups Users Settings (GUI) Phi11w I can change name. I cannot change account type from custom. I can access password area. I cannot Add a user. I cannot access Advanced Settings I can access Manage Groups. I cannot Delete (probably because I'm the only user ?) Pressing Help returns --> Failed to execute child process "gnome-help" (No such file or directory) I can sudo from the terminal. >From running as usb, with persitence I can create a new user as admin and log in okay with that user. I attach my /etc/passwd and /etc/group as created by the installer, below -- It looks correct to me .. *passwd* * * root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash daemon:x:1:1:daemon:/usr/sbin:/bin/sh bin:x:2:2:bin:/bin:/bin/sh sys:x:3:3:sys:/dev:/bin/sh sync:x:4:65534:sync:/bin:/bin/sync games:x:5:60:games:/usr/games:/bin/sh man:x:6:12:man:/var/cache/man:/bin/sh lp:x:7:7:lp:/var/spool/lpd:/bin/sh mail:x:8:8:mail:/var/mail:/bin/sh news:x:9:9:news:/var/spool/news:/bin/sh uucp:x:10:10:uucp:/var/spool/uucp:/bin/sh proxy:x:13:13:proxy:/bin:/bin/sh www-data:x:33:33:www-data:/var/www:/bin/sh backup:x:34:34:backup:/var/backups:/bin/sh list:x:38:38:Mailing List Manager:/var/list:/bin/sh irc:x:39:39:ircd:/var/run/ircd:/bin/sh gnats:x:41:41:Gnats Bug-Reporting System (admin):/var/lib/gnats:/bin/sh nobody:x:65534:65534:nobody:/nonexistent:/bin/sh libuuid:x:100:101::/var/lib/libuuid:/bin/sh syslog:x:101:102::/home/syslog:/bin/false messagebus:x:102:107::/var/run/dbus:/bin/false usbmux:x:103:46:usbmux daemon,,,:/home/usbmux:/bin/false haldaemon:x:104:110:Hardware abstraction layer,,,:/var/run/hald:/bin/false ntp:x:105:113::/home/ntp:/bin/false phi11w:x:1000:1000:phi11w,,,:/home/phi11w:/bin/bash *group* * * root:x:0: daemon:x:1: bin:x:2: sys:x:3: adm:x:4:phi11w tty:x:5: disk:x:6: lp:x:7: mail:x:8: news:x:9: uucp:x:10: man:x:12: proxy:x:13: kmem:x:15: dialout:x:20:phi11w fax:x:21: voice:x:22: cdrom:x:24:phi11w floppy:x:25: tape:x:26: sudo:x:27: audio:x:29: dip:x:30: www-data:x:33: backup:x:34: operator:x:37: list:x:38: irc:x:39: src:x:40: gnats:x:41: shadow:x:42: utmp:x:43: video:x:44: sasl:x:45: plugdev:x:46:phi11w staff:x:50: games:x:60: users:x:100: nogroup:x:65534: libuuid:x:101: syslog:x:102: fuse:x:103: crontab:x:104: mlocate:x:105: ssh:x:106: messagebus:x:107: lpadmin:x:108:phi11w ssl-cert:x:109: haldaemon:x:110: admin:x:111:phi11w netdev:x:112: ntp:x:113: phi11w:x:1000: sambashare:x:114:phi11w (No big secrets, that's the default system !!)
