I runned gtkperf on my EEEPC 701, the results is available on http://people.ubuntu.com/~gilir/tests/gtkperf_ozone_vs_10_10.txt (sorry, ugly txt file :p) The only difference is the gtk theme (Ozone, and the current Lubuntu 10.10 gtk theme) It's still slower, but not so much. I'll do another tests when we need to chose our theme by default.
