Well I'm sorry one and all, it would appear my troubleshooting was flawed. As much as I took out the KVM from my testing I never actually disconnected the KVM from the computer, just the keyboard and mouse connected to the KVM. I'm now battling the manufacturer for a replacement (it's 13 months old with a 12 month warranty). For some reason even though it had no input devices connected to it it was still upsetting the computer. I'm sorry to have wasted all your time with this and thanks so much for everyone's input, you're a credit to the community.
If anyone has any suggestions for a good 4 port USB/DVI KVM I'm all ears (probably better off list or on IRC because it's a bit off topic for this list) because apparently this Aten was a poor choice.
