Yesterday i tried to install i386 12.10 (05/10/12) from usb stick to a usb attached harddisk (a PHOTOFAS T18CF_64GB). Apparently all went well but then, trying to boot from that disk the only thing i got to was the 'grub rescue>' prompt. I repeated the procedure (=boot from usb stick and installation of lubuntu 12.10 to the usb hd) and the result was the same.
Then i installed <boot repair> on the booting usb stick and it did the job (re-installed grub onto the usb hd. Now, it's booting fine. On a Samsung N150P netbook.
