That could by a critical difference, because with the live CD, it's
running on RAM-disk, which takes up memory - hence the need to remove
the slideshow package (because even as a file on RAM-disk, it takes up
memory.
A live USB (with a persistence file) would be a different situation.
Now that all of my test-bed machines have the faster USB ports (on a PC
card), I will give that a try.
