I've seen your bug report right now. Thanks. Since the splash screen is managed by grub using vesa driver isn't so simple understand if the guilty is the xserver-xorg-video-neomagic package or a faulty kernel module. Did you try to install the kernel 3.2 ( the links I've posted) ?
