Since the splash screen is managed by grub using vesa driver isn't so simple understand if the guilty is the xserver-xorg-video-neomagic package or a faulty kernel module. Did you try to install the kernel 3.2 ( the links I've posted) ?

I did not install it. It seems pointless to go to a lot of trouble to install a system I can't use for anything. Also, it is my friend's machine - not mine.
Lubuntu LXLE 12.04 I have installed on another machine (one of mine) for testing purposes.
Where I have had other machines whose graphics have been abandoned, I tried the Lubuntu 12.04 (LXLE) live CD (doing that, I didn't have to install it), on the machine experiencing the problem.
On running that, there was no problem with the colors. -- Sincerely, Aere -- Lubuntu-users mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/lubuntu-users
