I find that screen locking doesn't work with Lubuntu + LTSP, because light-locker requires LightDM, and LTSP uses LDM instead of LightDM.

I recall that Lubuntu once used xscreensaver for screen locking, and I don't think it requires LightDM. But I think replacing xscreensaver with light-locker solved one or more problems, and I don't recall what they were, except that I remember having to log in at 2 screens when resuming from sleep.

I note that lxlock will also work with a variety of screen lockers: light-locker, xscreensaver, gnome-screensaver, slock, xlock, i3lock and xdg-screensaver.

Can anyone say more about the history, or the virtues/vices of the other screen lockers?
