You can simply delete the thumbnailer file in /usr/share/thumbnails/
Of course it would be nice to have this option, even something like an
option to clear thumbnail cache.
But you can simply enter the preferences dialog of pcmanfm to turn them off.
Edit->Preferences->Display->Show thumbnails of files (uncheck to disable)
You can also limit the size of files to thumbnail, and even choose to
thumbnail remote folders if you really like thumbnails.
I think most people expect there to be thumbnails. It makes certain
tasks much easier, like looking through pictures, or movies.
If you don't like it turn it off :D

I'm going to suggest to the pcman devs to include the option in the

Hi,
There are a few REALLY simple ways to circumvent this.
1) use imagemagick, because it can thumbnail everything... really....
pdf, images, movies.... Here is one for movies
save it as /usr/share/thumbnailers/imagemagick-video.thumbnailer
voila, fast, and easy
2) delete the totem-video-thumbnailer file from the same directory
no more pesky thumbnails.
bloody hell, that .thumbnail folder was HUGE already and i installed
this pc only a few weeks ago! Even PDF's, screenshots, this can't be
good for the performance in the long run when you open up a folder and
then it has to dig trough all the tumbnails in 1 folder and match
those with the actual files.... That's a big waste of time and energy...
If other people would use this PC i could even consider this to be a
privacy issue.... I really don't want to know what kind of video's
other people have played....
And still i can see how other people may really like this feature.
As eyecany, or to spy on their family. :-s So teens be aware, daddy
can find your hidden thumbnails!!! :-)
