Apache has a charter which forbids any software under the LGPL (or GPL) to
be included. Unless Doug and the other authors consent to loosening the
license to BSD, I wouldn't hold my breath for Lucene to be part of Jakarta.
I think there would be more immediate interest & development on Lucene if it
were part of Jakarta, but I can totally understand if authors are relectant
to change to a license that allows easy use/extension by commercial entities
without any requirement of contribution.
