actually most people would preffer to compile from source rather than use
RPM's  atleast i do , and i think not many distro's give you much hell  when
compiling as long as you know what you are doing, RPM's can give you hell
that i know.  But some packages you just dont want to compile from source
because of an notorious errors that you might get e.g compiling perl from
source tried it once when i was just beggining to understand linux  so i was
being an anti RPM chap but i must say it was a very very long day for me :)
