While it's simple for someone to tag MCSE, CCNA, RHCE, and all those fancy
certs to his signature and have no clue, I think if an engineer can get
certified in a certain field, psychologically, it improves his ability to
perform his duties, allowing him to exude confidence, skill and know-how,
even when he may not know 100%. And if he didn't pass, tough luck, a few
days of sobbing, beers, some females and a ton of knowledge in the brain.
Isn't that all that really counts. Taking a cert and failing it, is a lot
better than not reading it at all.

However, flaunt the certs only if you think you are good at what you
do/know. Else, gain more experience (or a few more certs), and then put them
out on display.
