Jigdo is the prefered download method for debian isos. I haven't heard (yet) of another distro using it.
The difference between it and DAP? Well DAP downloads different bits of the same file (eg.iso) from mirrors but jigdo downloads different files from mirrors and then reconstructs the iso. Jigdo mirrors usually list the individual files that are in the iso.
