It is not likely they bought it off more likely they got into those UDRP
issues. There is some policy about resolving intellectual propoerty rights
and other domain name disputes that was discussed for a long time in ICANN
circles and it usually applied in such cases though it sometimes takes a long
time.

As for hotmail my friend :-) They were too fast for you. I remember microsoft
registered those names along with things like word.co.ug, excel.co.ug and all
other variants of the name lest some of us take them up and put up pages
bashing their products :-)
