Henry,

The vmlinux you extracted to your FAT partition, was it from your
installation? (didn't complete this question in 1st email :)

To install Lilo off boot floppy or live CD, first create a new lilo.conf
in the partition where your installation is then do

/sbin/lilo -r /dev/<install partition eg hda1>

You might want to read the lilo man page first (just in case :)
