>Greetings LUG'ers,
>
>I hope you will forgive this posting by a lurker in your community. My
>name is Steve Song and I work for the International Development Research
>Centre (IDRC). Some of you I know have come across our organisation
>before.
>
>I would like to start by saying how much I appreciate this list. More
>often than not the latest Linux news reaches via Uganda long before
>anywhere else. I also appreciate the debate and discussion that goes on
>here.
>
>The reason I am writing is because I recognise (I think), from time to
>time, an inclination of group members to do more as a collective entity
>to promote open source and Linux. I have been reluctant to say anything
>as I am truly a lurker and not a member of your community.
>
>However, I had an idea today that I thought I would share. Have any of
>you come across Penguin Day (http://www.penguinday.org/)? I quote
>briefly from their website
>
>"At local Penguin Days non-profit organizations explore the range of
>issues and options involved using Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS).
>Penguin Day started in Philadelphia in March 2004 by a working group of
>nonprofit technology organizations: Aspiration (www.aspirationtech.org)
>NOSI (www.nosi.net) and the LINC Project (www.lincproject.org)
>Established with the intent to bring together open source developers and
>technology support staff for nonprofits, the event began an important
>conversation about the challenges and opportunities we face."
>
>Any interest in a Ugandan Penguin Day?
