In Uganda, I can unofficially say that Suse Linux has the greatest number
of Installs available from the experience we have with supporting and
installing Linux Systems as a company.

As regards the study that was done in 2003, it did not get down to the OS
flavours but for sure I too would be very interested in such a study for
obvious reasons.
