It was the 2.4 kernel

Hmmh, I clearly recall the POP3 server at the time, this was 2002,
was kernel 2.0. I know because we also had a Cobalt box at my first
employer running the kernel version.

At the time, 2.4 kernel was barely a few months from release;
unless they upgraded.

i probably interacted with the cobalts at a time the kernel had been upgraded..

(i cant remember the kernel version from uname -r, i just remember seeing "Linux Version 2.4" as the cobalt booted) ;)

whether this meant the kernel, am not really sure..
