Hullo everyone,
A note to seek for contacts for women ICT-based
enterprises in Uganda, where womens ICT based
enterprises are described as enterprises that are
majority-owned and/or run by women and that
operate in the ICT sector for example data entry,
e-services, IT training, cyber cafés, hardware
assembly, web design, software development, etc.
For your information, WOUGNET is conducting a
project whose goal is the creation of more and
better womens ICT based enterprises (WIE) in
Uganda. The WIE project in Uganda is part of a
global Women's ICT Enterprises Project, which is
coordinated by Dr. Richard Heeks of the
University of Manchester. For more information
about the global project, you can visit:
http://www.womenictenterprise.org. This website
also provides a link to a handbook on supporting
women's ICT-based enterprises. The Ugandan WIE
project is coordinated by WOUGNET. WOUGNET is
supported by an advisory group composed of
Ugandan participants to an India August 2005
workshop in which the English-language version of
the handbook on supporting womens ICT-based enterprises was reviewed.
In Uganda, there are two aspects to the WIE
project. The first aspect of the Ugandan project
involves localization and use of the guidance
handbook on creating and supporting womens ICT
based enterprises. Three core activities will be
undertaken with regards to handbook localization:
translation (Luganda/Luo), inclusion of local
stories and graphics, and wide dissemination via print, CD-ROM and radio.
The second aspect of the Ugandan project is to
run a workshop that motivates key stakeholders
(government, NGO, private sector, community,
donors, banks, and training institutions among
others) to initiate and promote women ICT-based
enterprises. The objective is to launch the
handbook discussion process and develop national
and local action plans to promote initiative and
improve WIEs. The WIE workshop will also include
a market place where womens ICT-based
enterprises will exhibit their products and services.
With this call for contacts, we hope to identify
women and women ICT-based enterprises that would
be interested in participating in this project.
In this regard, I do appreciate receiving contact
information by Wednesday 1st February 2006.
Regards,
Dorothy
