try making a manual configuration script for your addresses on both cards
chmod it to executable and place it one of those startup files
does suse use an rc.d directory or rc.S ?
the script should incliude ip addresses, broadcast address, routes iegateway
and the loopback address
as for the misbehaving card, you could simple download its module and
modprobe it
The misbehaving card's module does get loaded otherwise he would not
be able to assign the ip address manually, it is the init scripts that
dont setup the interface correctly
if modprobe works, insert the modprobe command into an rc.local or other
startup script
