FYI,

AfriNIC received a 1024 AS number block for use in Africa:

5.0 - 5.1023

Note the format, as agreed by the IESG/IETF

We still have 923 free 16-bit AS numbers, but are happy to assign a
32-bit AS number to whomever requests it (provided their equipment can
take it into its configuration)
