Henry,
I hope this isn't too late. As a fedora die-hard, I'm really worried at the
current trend at Fedora, more frequent releases with more buggy compents.
They are already pushing for Fedora 7, while FC6 and FC5 are still
annoyingly buggy.
They seem to be designing a more internet than CD media based installation
and rpm access system. Most of the products that we have come to love about
fedora are being "improved", to give way to a wider scope for choice of
packages. The default for installation is slowly tending to a remote
repository system.
The redhat-config-update and related tools have been replaced by pup and
Fedora-Extras(as of FC6) a yum-based system that would allow U to specify
extra repository sources right from install time. (Might lead to a botched
install if handled over zealously)
All of this isn't a necessarily bad concept, however like all new (read open
source) things, prototypes are not enough to judge a component as no FC
release worthy.
FRANCIS.

Thanks francis
Also does anyon knowe why i cannot install packages from my 5 feodra cds
redhat-confdig-packages ( redhat) would perform an auto check and prompt for
the correct cd No.
FC5 gets you to download 5 cds yet only uses 2
and it goes straight to the net when you use yum or whatever
whats the point ?
I know I coould manually search for the rpm and use rpm ivh but...

Henry,
Try yum -y install ...
Though not necessarily faster, this allows U to use the answer all queries with a yes; which should be the required motion of events.

Is there a way to speed up the yum-install on fedora so it just does the job quickly?
kind a like the way apt-get on ubuntu does

actually, SuSE now has "yast repositories" so yast's package
management tool can act as a.... package management tool!

these do not ship with it though, and not enough credible yum repos
exist for SuSE
