Try the SMART or YUM (APT seems slower)update tools, if U'r on the net. They have been ported to most Unix flavors. Be careful to use only one of them though. The resulting RPM database confusion, from using multiple update tools and incompatible repositories, is not very plesant.
To enjoy the full benefits of either tool, U have to search abit to find fairly fast repositories, and only update CORE packages from the primary repositories.
FRANCIS.
PS: My personal best is SMART; which should be comfortably supported in SuSE.

actually, SuSE now has "yast repositories" so yast's package
management tool can act as a.... package management tool! While I love SuSE, I sometimes get bothered by the fact that the FTP ISO's do not include ALL the packages; which is fine because they need to make some money off the DVD's - but as we all know, reliable and timely supply of the DVD's is an issue.
While I'm happy waiting around until my DVD arrives for use on my laptop, I'm not as thrilled when I badly need to install Exim on a server, and it's only available on the DVD for that release.
