There was a more recent plan to extend the Fibre that Ethiopia has access to
all the way to Kenya Border, and Uganda was to feed off the fibre via the
border links to Kenyan telcos

I know of some plans o extend fibre through Sudan. Currently the one from
Khartoum reaches a town about 400Km north of Juba with a name that starts
with Ma.... I understand when southern sudan settles, the link will extend to
West Nile. Lets hope for the best.

Prior to the kenyan crisis, there was a lead time of 6 months on this

I think the operative part of the above sentence is "now coming",
which has been the status for the last 3+ years.

EA needs to complete the EA backhaul while TEAMS.SEACOM/EASSY/FLAG et.
al, get theirs done (or not).

I saw this http://www.meoltd.com/site/en/about.html
the other day, I wonder if they have the cash to back up their ambitions!?
