Sorry for cross-posting. This is what was posted to the i-network list yesterady. I will also post my reply. As people on this list generally have good ideas (remember R Kelly?) I would be interested to know what you think would be interesting opensource software for the ugandan/ea market.
And if you would be interested to become involved in the project, feel free to step forward. rgds, reinier Dear I-Netters; It is my prayer that you are in perfect health. I bring you greetings from the Faculty of Computing and IT Makerere University. At the beginning of this year I sent an email to this network informing you about National Software Incubation Center which was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. We have been identifying the students that will undertake their training in development over the next four months. The purpose of this email is to interest you as key stakeholders to take up this opportunity and shape the functioning of this incubation center. Our desire is that the products that come out of this incubation center should be on demand and not imaginary. This can only be achieved through your support. There are two way you can participate…. 1. Being a mentor; under this arrangement you will avail your time and work with a specific group of persons whom you will share with the technical expertise that you possess. This will be at your convenience. The Faculty will avail space and facilities to enable you undertake you guidance. I must thank Riener who did express interest in providing this kind of support. 2. Some of you have projects or innovations that you would want to see happen but for one reason or the other you are not able to achieve your desire. You can present this challenge to the center and group of students [4] will be assigned the task of developing your project to completion. What does mean to you as industry; 1. Working with the students you will be able to identify talent 2. You will not spend to these persons trained 3. We are developing capacity for the industry 4. Most importantly I know most of us are advocates of open source…. The center will be purely open source based! At the end of this our desire is that all the projects should be taken up by the industry. Over to you now…….I am counting on you!
