Moodle could be a start, theres also http://elgg.org. Moodle seems
too education curriculum oriented. I was looking at this from a non
class room perspective, real projects with real outputs. To me, this
would look like sourceforge + groupware + ....
Some one could post a project with some specifications say, "Building
a simple radio circuit" Some one offers to fund the project, the
project gets a mentor/s and volunteers and they set to implement it.
During and after implementation, all documentation, designs, specs
are posted back etc, etc
With that every body can participate, everybody can learn especially
people in school.
