And let me add Arjan de Jager and the IICD (iicd.org) for supporting the FOSS movement in East Africa. They believed early on, as one of the few development organisations, that FOSS has the potential to change the ICT Landscape and were willing to put their funds there.

Both of us have moved on (Arjan is now advising the Dutch government and I am continuing the FOSS struggle in Papua New Guinea) but we have have tried to bundle our experiences in a small book: "FOSS for Development - Exploring expectations, achievements and the future".

It has been published under the CC license and can be found on:

We must thank Mount Batten, Etech and everyone for doing their part in

I was kind of hoping East African Center for Open Source Software (EACOSS) would spear head the trend from their website and related activities within
Uganda at least. Not much word from there though!

Patrick,
You have made an interesting observation. FOSS should be 'shared' along the same lines or better, it is really odd that windows gets 'shared'
more than FOSS here.

Kind of reminds me of a discussion I had sometime back with
some pals
regarding very popular global hit songs.

Its not because of the acclaimed global sales but because
of the how much is
"shared"

windows seems to have the high "shared" rate than
FREE Software. How can we
share FOSS more easily and induce other to want to shared
too?
