I suggest you get some of these packages installed, the choice is yours really. You could read a little on each. I have recommended what I use;

Also available in the Firefox - as an add-on or use through gedit's external tools plug-in. - PHP_Beautifier - A pear package for beautifying (formatting) your PHP code. Great to use with gedit's external tools plug-in. - Agave - A color scheme designer for GNOME.
