Danny, 1) Never let a Microsoft Outlook PST file get above 2Gb, yes I know the new 2003+ version is supposed to allowed it but in our experience the file become exponentially more likely to corrupt.
2) The other possible cause could be that auto-archive has kicked in and moved the mail somewhere. Do a search for PST's in the last week or however long since this happened.
