To add a more constructive topic though what exactly are your users using the thin clients for? Is there a specific application you need to run Windows for? If so then what you could look into is using a Remote Desktop Client like rdesktop to connect to a remote Windows Server. But to be honest I'd use this as a opportunity to rid yourselves of that shackle.
In addition are you licensed to run Windows? Last time I was down at the lab I saw every machine running with a "this is not genuine pop-up on the front" Your students are a very adaptable bunch and a few of them have seen Linux now since the last Software Freedom Day.
