Looking at my desk in front of me, I see a snow leopard install cd, a macbook

Very true. I also notice this with the 3rd generation gaming consoles. The 
games, at their core, are the same, but what changes is how we play them.

"The TV isn't going away anytime soon. And neither is the iPad"  - a bold 
statement from the author which might just prove the be correct. I can "see" 
your average [american] family going on vacation and packing their ipad, I 
think it has the potential to become a generally accepted family device like 
the gameboy did so many years ago. I also like the authors definition of the 
iPad: a portable general-purpose display system.
