Looks to me like you're looking for a NAS not a SAN per se. What is "quite some data" in numerical terms? How critical is this data? What kind of backup are you thinking of? If this data was lost, what is acceptable downtime for recovering from a backup? Is this just a bunch of files stored on remote storage or is this data part of a database like oracle, mysql etc where I/O matters? The answers to these questions determine the kind of storage solution that is ideal for your environment.
