John,

I think all it has highlighted is we have a single point of failure. The whole
link from KLA to Mobasa could in fact be considered a SPF. Once the additional
routes are completed via Kigali/TZ and Essy this will problem will disappear.
We also do have VSAT capacity for emergency use, but clearly the capacity is
not enough.

Please lets now start suggesting anyone get involved in protecting the fibre as
that will cause more problems than it will solve. It is however standard
practice for key Internet installations (i.e. Telehouse in London) to have
serious security and this would not be a bad idea.

The bombs exposed our weak links to the terrorists.. They now know how to take
out our gateway to the Internet!

Hi,

While SEACOM has been broken for about 2 weeks now, at a place at the bottom
of the ocean a few hundred kilometers north of mombassa, as of last sunday,
due to the blasts at the rugby club, the UETCL fiber was broken.

the uetcl fiber carries all ISPs except MTN to and across the border to Kenya.
(We know they do for TEAMS, as that was the only capacity left, but probably
they carry the SEACOM capacity as well, if that is available)

Last night, the UETCL fiber was repaired. We are now back to TEAMS only
capacity.
