Well I suspect you are looking at it as a user rather than a developer then.

The reason that Google considered it worthy of a new product launch is
that the underlying technology is completely different. To auto
complete a text box with some standard entries is complex, but really
for an accomplished programmer not that hard. To auto return search
results in real time as the user enters text, wow thats hard, believe
me. Think about the complexities involved in doing that, and not just
doing it for me, but simultaneously doing it for millions of queries.

You know guys, I saw an interesting piece of technology, just been
unveiled, and decided to share it amongst the different LUG mailing
lists I subscribe to. Everyone was really impressed by it, and it led
to interesting discussions as to how they were doing it. All except
this one, where people either sneered and said they had seen it a long
time ago, or they tried to pick a fight. What gives?
