Joachim, I don't exactly understand what u mean by assigning the 20
unique names to the rest of the 320 names! (what happens to the
unsampled 300 after you assign them the 20 sampled/selected names? Do
they lose their original names or it's a concat affair?).
Please help me think clearly & would gladly help!

Subject: [LUG] Is this a dictionary and key pair issue?
I have a list with 320 names each assigned a number randomly between
1-320(done). From this list of 320 names, I am to pick out 20 names
with no
repetition and assign them to each of the 320 names(done). Is there
a way
(apart from literally typing them) to assign the randomly generated
numbers
to the appropriate name now that I have a list with 6400 (320 x 20)
names?
This is not a one time thing, I will have to do this every 2-3
months. Any
pointers? What do the database and script writers have on this?
regards
Joachim
