While I appreciate the simplicity that google gives us, I still believe
that as a community, we have the ability and resources to manage this
service independently without having to run to big brother. For how long
shall we continue making the likes of google the alpha and omega of our
IT services? In future I see us resisting google the way microsoft is
being resisted today why? Because they will have grown to an extent
where they are influencing each and every nook and cranny of our ICT
experience. This is not a good thing in my view.

While the problems experienced lately with the list are worth noting, I
still believe that the efficiency with which the list has been
maintained in the last 9 years has been superb. What we need to do is
probably just shape up a few areas like integrating the list with the
lug website as proposed by Kyle and Vass and also having a backup admin
to the list who can reinforce Kiggs' tireless efforts.

Other cosmetic additions like Mugarura's comment on a clear unsubscribe
notice accompanying the emails posted are also welcome IMHO.
